TTA Offers Support to NHBC to Bring Their New Tiling Guidance in Line With British Standards

Published June 12, 2024

The Tile Association (TTA) has been working with the British Adhesives and Sealants Association (BASA) and Construction Products Association (CPA) to highlight concerns with the NHBC Technical Guidance 2023 Clause 9.2-06 Wet Area Specs – Tanking requirements. Since the guidelines proposed by the National House Building Council (NHBC) on 27th July 2023 did not concur with the British Standards Codes of Practice for wall and floor tiling or products available on the British market, TTA believed that the NHBC’s technical guidance would cause major confusion, lack of availability and possible misuse of product.

TTA Technical & Training Manager Martin Pouncey and experts from TTA’s Technical Committee were involved in an open and honest discussion of the NHBC’s Technical Guidance, providing accurate information on the British Standards and best practices. The date of effect on the guidance has been delayed from 1st July 2024 to the end of December 2024 until matters are resolved. Further discussions on the matter will be held.

The Tile Association’s technical support operates for the benefit of its members and the industry. The first in TTA’s three pillar strategy is to ‘Raise tile and tiling standards and enhance installation expertise and craftsmanship’, as these discussions aim to achieve.
