Colleges across the UK are preparing to host the largest and longest-running construction skills competition, with over 1,000 students set to compete in the SkillBuild 2024 Regional Qualifiers this year, including the candidates in this year’s wall and floor tiling category.
There are 19 Regional Qualifiers taking place across the UK from 23rd April–4th July. The heats for wall and floor tiling are:
- 25th April – City College Plymouth
- 14th May – Barnsley College
- 16th May – Burnley College
- 21st May – South West College NI
- 11th June – Coleg Cambria, Wrexham
- 20th June – Preston College
- 25th June – Edinburgh College
Following the Regional Qualifiers, the top eight scoring competitors from each trade category will be invited to take part in the UK National Final. Following last year’s success, the National Final will again take place at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes from 18th-22nd November 2024.
The event is sponsored by a number of brands including, for the tiling industry: Building Adhesives Ltd, N&C Nicobond, Schlüter-Systems, The Tile Association and Weber.
Chair of TTA Technical Committee, David Rowley, and Vice-Chair of TTA Technical Committee, Martin Pouncey, are judges in this year’s SkillBuild competition, supporting TTA’s strategic plan to raise tile and tiling standards and enhance installation expertise and craftsmanship.
